Collapsed Man Stops Buses - Jumper Got Caught!

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

Buses were delayed yesterday from Piccadilly Bus Station as a young man lay collapsed on the zebra crossing, blocking the exit road. The Afro-Caribbean male was drifting in & out of consciousness on the floor as police officers tried to prevent any deterioration in his condition. This meant that all buses leaving the station were delayed for over 30 mins.

An ambulance was called, but it took awhile. Eventually, when one did arrive, the driver/medic of the hatch back saloon was on his way to another scene. Near the Arndale Centre someone was threatening to throw themselves of a building. Passengers on the station couldn’t understand why the driver was wanting to follow the tram lines and not see to the young man.

Finally, the ‘jumper’ was arrested and the driver of the small paramedic ambulance turned to help the casualty. If he was called to the ‘jumper’ then where was the second ambulance?

As the paramedic checked the casualty, members of the public formed a crowd. As they couldn’t now catch their bus. The police asked them to go away. Some of the crowd began to argue and complain to the police, with no thought of the injured man on the ground. 1 or 2 shouted to the officers to move the man, which could have risked further injury if something was broken. Eventually, the crowd dispersed and the police discovered a police ‘tag’ on the man’s ankle.

It looked like the man had been drinking all day and lacked sleep. 10mins after the paramedic checked his pulse and blood sugar the man was able to get up and walk to the coffee house to sit down.

To those people who showed a bad attitude - let’s hope its not you next time.

Fraud Company Hitting Mobiles - Don’t Be A Victim

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person, saying that he or she is a company engineer, or telling that they’re checking your mobile line, and you have to press #90 or #09 or any other number, end this call immediately without pressing any numbers.

There is a fraud company using a device that once you press #90 or #09 they can access your ‘SIM’ card and make calls at your expense. Forward this message to as many colleagues, relatives and friends as you can, to stop it.

Many thanks for your time regarding this matter, take care and regards.

Dying To Go Toilet? Shocking Missing AED Pictures!

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Arndale AED 1.jpg

If you’re shopping in one part of the Arndale Centre in Manchester, let’s hope that you’re not dying to go to the loo. If you suffered a heart attack then you could well be. I made a shocking discovery when I came out of the toilets (the new ones next to River Island), that the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was missing.

Shocking - No AED?

It may have been used or taken away for repairs, but hasn’t been replaced. These are put in public places, like airports and shopping centres, to help save lives. These AED are used to shock the heart into restarting. How?

The AED checks the heart to see if there’s an irregular beat. This detects whether it is safe to administer an electric shock through the chest. If the heart is OK or stopped completely then the machine will not work as a safety precaution. When the machine says that is safe, then the qualified user can then push the button. This electric shock actually stops the heart, contrary to popular belief. The brain realises that the heart has stopped and then sends a signal to the heart to restart. Hopefully, it restarts and a normal beat is heard.

Being a British Red Cross member and a trained First Aider, with AED training, I found this really shocking that one of the Arndale Centre’s AED machines was in fact missing. There is another AED near Anne Summers. But, every second counts. Every second wasted looking for another could mean the difference between life or death - literally.

My message to the Managers of the Arndale is to please replace this AED asap.

Lets hope the only shock you get this weekend are the prices!

Tesco - “it was JJB next door.”

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Why did the reporter cross the street? To buy a chicken from Aldi!

I find it strange that when an alarm goes off they clear next door. Can’t they wait until I finish my shopping?

An insider at Tesco Metro Manchester informed me that the store was closed, not because of their fire alarm, but it was JJB next door.

What? JJB has a fire alarm going off at 7:35pm, by my watch, and Tesco loses sales? Good job it’s on a corner. It’s bad enough walking around the store 5 times because they’ve moved everything around, without having to leave the store minus my bread and butter. My local inconvenience, it was. Since when did a false alarm pass through brick?

I didn’t see or hear any fire crews running to the scene. Probably out shopping at ASDA Hulme.

I hope Dave Whelan, who also owns Wigan AFC, realises that his store in Market St caused Tesco to close early and this added 10mins to my shopping trip. I did get a bigger chicken from Aldi, but I had to cross the street.

DENTIST BLOG - coming soon.

Petition for single CRB Check

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

I am fed up of the red tape involved in CRB checks. Every time I volunteer where children or vulnerable adults are involved the organisation has to spend more money and more of my time in obtaining another CRB check.

I join a charity - CRB check… 3 months later help a youth project - CRB check… help a school holiday club - CRB check… and so on. One should be enough for it’s duration. If another one is needed then the charity/organisation/school concerned should have that option.

I believe it’s over cautious and is waisting charities time and money and putting off volunteers. Now we can ask the Priminister to just have the one.

Please pledge your support at:

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/SingleCRBcheck/

NOTE: This is not a secure site to be giving private info out online. The British Government should know better. The risk is yours!

By changing the system so that the information from one enhanced CRB check is held in one central location, with copies available, this would create a more cost-effective and efficient way of updating information to ensure the safety of children and adults that CRB checked individuals are working with.

Why make life difficult for work that isn’t paid?

WARNING: Text Msgs to 81456 - is a scam!

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

I’ve just had a couple of text messages to my ‘3′ mobile phone saying:

FreeMsg: We have you listed as a In-active user, Please text ‘Live’ back to us on ‘81456‘ or your service will be suspended.

Notice the poor English “.. a In-active..” and “… user, Please..” a capital letter after a comma. In the from bar, they put your service provider like ‘3′. And because this is in your contacts as default, it’s easy to presume it’s from your mobile phone service provider. IT IS NOT.

Replying to this text will cost £3.50 each text, it is a premium rate text service. They will send a second message:

You are now Live! details have been forwarded to your email account, thankyou once again. Full T & C apply, please see your email for detials.

Again, very poor English grammar and poor spelling.

Then they send you another like the first saying that the user,

..must respond only to ‘81456‘ with the text ‘Live’ failure to do so..

So, in effect you are sending a second premium rate text to 81456. Now they have charged £7.00 to your mobile phone account bill.

If you have been a victim of this scam, you need to contact your phone’s service provider immediately. If you do get one then ask your provider for advice.
